The Distinct Profile of PNG Highlands Coffee
Papua New Guinea's Highlands coffee, particularly the Arabica from Jiwaka, Eastern, and Western Highlands, holds a prestigious place in the global specialty market. This is what sets it apart:
Growing Conditions: The central mountainous cordillera provides ideal high-altitude (1,200m–2,000m+) conditions, cool nights, plentiful rainfall, and rich volcanic soils, which contribute to slow cherry maturation and complex flavor development.
Flavor Profile: PNG Highlands coffee is renowned for its clean, balanced acidity (often brighter than Indonesian coffees but softer than East African), a medium, syrupy body, and a complex palate featuring notes of:
Fruity & Floral: Ripe citrus, red apple, and herbaceous aromatics.
Sweetness & Depth: Dark chocolate, caramel, honeyed sweetness, and hints of sweet pipe-tobacco or spice.
Processing: The majority of high-quality Arabica is fully washed (wet-processed) by smallholder farmers, resulting in a clean and transparent cup that allows the unique terroir to shine.
By sourcing directly from regions like Jiwaka, Mallard Impex provides access to some of the world's most unique and sustainably-produced Arabica coffee.
